Movie Reviews for an Australian Audience: Justification

Reasons why we need another movie review page on the Web, and why it should be me:
  1. I'm in Australia so my reviews will be much more applicable to the Australian movie release schedule. For U.S. movies this isn't an issue since they're usually released later here. Hence, heaps of reviews can be found for them. Australian, New Zealand, some European and some Asian movies come to Australia first and finding reviews of them on the Web can be trickier. So I'll be focusing on such movies.

  2. I won't give away the plot (promise). My high school English teacher would give a fail if an essay consisted of a plot summary of the book we were studying; the pieces of the book could be used to analyse and critique it but bald retelling of the plot was right out. Do you really want to read a movie review that gives away everything except the last five minutes of the film? This is usually just a yes/no, will she/won't she sort of event anyway. Very few of the films made today are good enough to stand that sort of exposure. These reviewers seem to be saying that the plot is immaterial; it's how the movie is crafted that matters. While the craft of the film is important, not knowing what is going to happen next is one of the major joys of most activities, let alone film watching. We're all bored and blasé about life - we've been there and done that - so let's have a little bit of mystery back in our movies.

If you disagree with me and want to know everything there is to know about a movie before parting with your hard earned $12, then here's the movie reviewer for you. If you feel I've broken my promise and revealed too much of the plot, let me know. I'll try to amend the offending review.

  3. I need to justify the number of movies I see each year.

  4. I want to.
